I celebrated my birthday here in Belize with Amy and the boys and our friends Tara, Cathy, Aiden, Kelly, and Dawn. We booked a day trip on No Rush, a sailing catamaran that makes regular trips to Mexico Rocks. The weather was perfect--full sun with a nice steady breeze out of the east.

Enjoying the sail (believe it or not, neither of those drinks are mine...honest!) |
We had a delightful sail north (and I got to fulfill a daydream by listening to "Everybody's Talkin" along the way) and anchored quite close to the reef. We snorkeled for about 45 minutes to an hour, and Liam and I each speared a lionfish. We saw lots of rays, sharks, and the usual compliment of beautiful fishes and corals.

We stopped at Ambergris Divers Resort for lunch, and afterwards the kids swam in the pool and the grownups enjoyed some beverages and lively conversation.

It was a beautiful day |
The sail back to town was equally enjoyable. Tara and the ladies serenaded me with what is quite possibly the best Happy Birthday song ever (after each UGH, make a stabbing motion into your own chest):
Happy Birthday, UGH!
Happy Birthday, UGH!
Blood and guts everywhere
People dying everywhere
Happy Birthday, UGH!
Happy Birthday, UGH!
ONE YEAR CLOSER TO DEATH!
