We were all slightly astonished to be flying business class. Talk about a happy accident! |
Our trip through Central America did not include El Salvador. We'd heard nice things about the country, but we were also advised to give it a pass and focus on the other countries. The way the logistics worked out, this was a good decision. However, we did have to fly through San Salvador on the way back to Belize, and we had a
seven hour layover. We didn't leave the airport, but just for the sake of comprehensiveness, I'm going to add El Salvador to the map.

Our attendant, he was awesome |
|
Holy cow, we even got REAL FOOD |
Our flight was greatly enhanced by the fact that we somehow inadvertently purchased business class tickets! The boys thought it was so cool and just couldn't stop giggling when the stewardess handed out the hot towels with silver tongs. I found it pretty humorous too.

Yep, we're in El Salvador now |
The big benefit of flying business class is we had access to the Avianca Airlines VIP Lounge! This place was amazing--super duper clean, nice furniture, free sodas, booze, and food, wi-fi, desks, the whole nine yards. I was crunching on a deadline, so I availed myself of the wi-fi and a desk, and Amy and the boys hung out in the lounge and played games, then explored the airport for a bit. It was definitely one of the most enjoyable layovers I've ever had.

I felt certain we'd get kicked out of this place at some point, it seemed way too posh for us |
|
Around noon they set up the booze fountains |
|
Along with coffee, tea, juice, water, etc etc |
|
Not to mention fridges full of beer and soda |
|
And just as soon as my map was done (OK maybe just a little before) it was time to sample an El Salvadoran beer. To absolutely nobody's surprise, it tasted...exactly like every other beer in Central America. But for some reason, free beer always tastes a little better. |
